So, having watched the first episode of Julian Fellowes' Downton Abbey, I was wondering who else caught it? I enjoyed it ENORMOUSLY and am already desperate for tonight's episode. Not only does Maggie Smith play a very Countess of Trentham sort, but all of the characters both above stairs and below stairs are really fabulously well-drawn.
I know it's a little fandom that could, but I couldn't believe that there was only one Gosford Park fic written this time around for
yuletide. My second year of Yuletide, my second Gosford Park fic - I think a tradition may have been hatched! This time around the prompt asked for more about Henry Denton, so please head this way if you want to find out about What Henry Wants - hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Title: Carpe Diem
Rating: R
Length: 1265 words
Fandom: Gosford Park (Robert/Mary)
Prompt: fascination, kiss; from Porn Battle VII
A/N: This is my first fic in this fandom so I'd love any and all comments/criticism!
At night, as she flops boneless and exhausted into her narrow little bed in the room above Lady Trentham's, she presses her face into her pillow and remembers Robert's lips on hers.
(There are quite a few prompts for Gosford Park in this round of the Porn Battle (here) if anyone else is interested!)

And feel free to post stories and links here in the comm!

This year's
yuletide has yielded a new crop of Gosford Park stories! Author's names will be revealed on New Year's Day.
The Remains of the Day
When the air-raid sirens sound, and the low drone of airplane engines echo through the night sky, half of London pours into the Underground.
Carpe Diem
Next time, things will be different.
Ten Steps Ahead As Always
Lady Trentham doesn't like shooting parties, but the food is better.
"Invisible, Like Lightning"
Mary and Robert are the invisibles. Is happiness in their future? Or will they be left behind by chance and circumstance?
Sometimes On The Rarest Nights
A present-day discovery of letters reveals to the public more about Ivor Novello's life. But to those in the know, the letters reveal even more about Mabel Nesbitt, and the enduring friendship that spanned three decades.
If you read and enjoy, please feedback the authors using the comment link at the bottom of the story. Also, if you wrote any of the GP stories in this year's exchange, please consider submitting them to Land of Might-Have-Been after the reveal!
As always, if you have GP stories (or find GP stories) not currently on the links post, please leave a comment and the list will be updated.

I realise many of you know this already, but
yuletide sign-ups close tomorrow.
If you enjoy reading and writing Gosford Park fan fiction, I highly recommend reading through the Yuletide FAQ and signing up if you feel you're up to the challenge.
Most of the extant GP fan fiction was written for the yuletide rare fandom fiction exchange, and it remains one of the few places we can count on for a new influx of Gosford fan fiction each year.

David Slattery-Christy (the Ivor Novello consultant on the film) just emailed to let me know that a new expanded edition of In Search of Ruritania will be published shortly, and a revivial of Novello's Glamorous Night is being staged for a few performances in Buxton around August Bank Holiday week-end.
Just an FYI, been mucking around with the layout of the comm. Still have a bunch of styles to try and work out, but we're getting there... Let me know if the text is too small? I'm testing with IE 7 on a PC, but haven't checked it out with Safari or Firefox yet.

Also, Land of Might-Have-Been has also been updated with slightly tweaked versions of The Servants' Ball and And Seas May Lie Between, as well as recent updates to the Recommended Reading section. I'm also hoping to get a gallery of screen captures up, as well as more scans.
If you have suggestions, additions, or recommendations, please do let me know! The site is still a work in progress (and I still need to finish writing the character bios. I just can't keep all the kitchen maids, hall boys, and house maids straight). Also, I was thinking of adding a section with sueful data such as average wages earned by upepr and lower servants from 1930 to 1935, etc. as well as catalogues of dutites of the different jobs as well. I figure, why do all this wacky research, if not to share it with other equally insane people, right?
If you have GP fic, please consider submitting it to the archive! And feel free to post stories and links here in the comm... The more the merrier!

Would any of you be interested in taking part in a small GP ficathon in the new year? Not right away (particularly as many of us are not yet recovered from yuletide) but maybe with sign-ups going through the end of January, and stories due in the spring? Yuletide whetted my appetite for new GP stories, and I can't wait a whole year for more!
Also, on a completely different note, I watched Regeneration last nigth for the first time in years and years, and somehow I had not remembered that James Wilby (Freddie Nesbitt) played WWI poet Siegfried Sassoon. If you've never seen it, it's quite a brilliant little film, and it's out on DVD as Behind the Lines in the US. Dougray Scott has a cameo as Robert Graves, and Jonny Lee Miller is quite stunning as Prior. But this is very much Jonathan Pryce's film, and the chemistry he has as Rivers with both Prior and Sassoon is amazing. If you've only ever seen Wilby in GP, this film shows you how extraordinary he can be. By half-way through, I'd completely forgot about Freddie.
And lastly, I am going to do another batch of GP icons I think in the next few weeks. Aside from more Sylvia icons, anyone have any requests?

According to David Slattery-Christy (the "Gosford Park" Ivor Novello expert) a theatre company are mounting a production of his revised version of Ivor Novello's "Glamorous Night" next August in the UK. I'll update with more details as soon as I have more details...
I've been making steady updates the past few days to Land of Might-Have-Been, particularly in the Recommended Reading/Viewing. I have a bunch of links at home with music of the time as well, which I forgot to upload last night. But if you have additions/corrections/suggestions about the site, please do let me know!
Also, I'll have more info on the board game soon. And hopefully better pictures as well.

Hi someone told me to cross post these to this journal.
Okay here's one of my favorite movies and which I never seen movies being made of them... Gosford Park... I swear this movie is an all star cast!
I love certain scenes more than others, the emotion, the acting... Ohh LaLa!

Just something I was playing with over the last week-end, and I thought I'd share. Let me know if anyone needs any other sizes...
I'll see if I can't get the site going as well, but for now... we have a comm! hurrah!
I'm still in the process of deciding on layout, and will need to muck about with the design in order to get it all lovely and pristine.
Also, I'm hoping to have icons and/or wallpaper by next week-end. Because I am in in that kind of a fannish place right now.
